Petition Asks Baseball Players to Wear White Ribbons During Next Week's All-Star Game in Protest of SB 1070

Next week, Major League Baseball will hold its annual All Star game in Phoenix, where Sheriff Joe Arpayaso roams and perhaps the only major metropolitan area in the United States that has more Know Nothings per ratio than Orange County. For the past year, activists have been calling on Commissioner Bud Selig to move the game away because of Arizona's reprehensible SB 1070–that obviously isn't happening, so those activists went on to ask Latino ballplayers such as Boston Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols to boycott the game.

That's probably not going to happen, either. Which is why another group of activists have now released a petition asking for the least that baseball players can do–wear a white ribbon to protest SB 1070.

You can read the petition here, and it has some big names–Dolores Huerta, Lalo Alcaraz, Nation sports editor Dave Zirin–attached as the sponsors of it, and others who aren't: yours truly. Other local names attached to this is my Cal State Fullerton boss, Alexandro Jose Gradilla (chair of the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies) and Dr. Kristen Guzman, the chair of the history department at Santa Ana College.

Add your name here–gracias for standing against stupidity!
