Guaranty Chevrolet is holding a drawing among the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) students with perfect attendance this year, where five will be chosen to receive a car key. The student with the key that starts the engine on a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic wins that car, which normally go for $14,000 to $21,000.

The other four finalists receive $100 apiece in the promotion Guaranty started in 2007. The looks on the faces of student winners have been “priceless,” according to dealership owner Bruce Hamlin, but he cited a more important reason for the giveaway.

“The main reason we do this is to help the community,” he told City News Service recently. “The more students that attend classes daily, the more educated the student becomes. Those are the people that become good citizens and therefore help the community.”

The promotion has also jump started the SAUSD. which has been cited by the state for the past two years for improved attendance and dropout prevention.
