You know how there's a “huge difference” between techno and house (and trance)? That's how strongly people felt about disco. OK, we lied: All disco was equally bad. But even we can admit to enjoying “Dancing Queen” every once in a while. The first disco songs arguably came about in 1973. Performers leading the dance-oriented genre included Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer and, of course, ABBA. The Swedish group of the 1970s had an astounding 20 singles reach the Billboard charts, trailing only the Beatles and Elvis in record sales. And now, thanks to the Broadway smash-hit Mamma Mia! , here we are, more than 25 years following the demise of ABBA, and people still fucking care. Maybe you're one of them.
