So your options for Labor Day Weekend just got a bit more interesting. On Thursday, entertainment company Pacific Festival (co-founded by DJ Steve Aoki) announced a lineup and ticket info for its new event, Pacific Festival: The Dunes, taking place on Sep. 2 in Newport Beach, featuring performances from Mayer Hawthorne, Poolside, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Fool's Gold and more.
The new festival, co-produced by Pac Fest, with presenting sponsor Identity MG, is a major departure from what many fans remember about last year's Pacific Festival: OC , an EDM-focused blowout of bloated, Coachella-caliber headliners including Cut Copy and Snoop Dogg at Oak Canyon Ranch. This year, the Dunes is different kind of party. Aside from being 50 percent slimmer (half the amount of tickets are on sale this year versus last year), the Dunes mission to bring you “your best day at the beach all summer” is decidedly band-focused, with a much more modest roster of live acts and DJs signed on to play their seaside stage at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina. Hawthorne's smooth, old-school Motown sound (which has long outgrown his celebrated, packed club shows at the Continental Room in Fullerton), is probably a way different headliner than a lot of people were expecting. Then again the Dunes could probably use a little soul.
In addition to the main stage, there's also going to be two other entertainment areas, including one space for DJs and live bands and the other for just set up for DJs and a couple of after parties with lineups still waiting to be announced.
Pre-sale tickets for the event are now on sale via the Pacific Festival website along with extra info about the lineup, the event and the new location. According to festival organizers, $1 of every ticket is going to benefit the Surfrider Foundation along with a beach cleanup scheduled for the day after the event.
