Oytun Ayse Mihalik, Former CVS Pharmacist, Gets 5 Years in Federal Prison for Aiding Al-Qaeda

Earlier this month, Moxley told us the fabulous tale of one Oytun Ayse Mihalik of La Palma, a former CVS pharmacist whom the feds accused of raising money for Al Qaeda. Using the name “Cindy Palmer,” Mihalik sent a couple of thousand to folks in Pakistan who wanted to harm American soldiers–she pleaded guilty to this. But while the American government wanted her to serve 12 years in prison, Mihalik asked for two.

Today, a judge sentenced her to the middle: five years.

“International terrorists require a steady pipeline of money to maintain and support their operations,” United States Attorney André Birotte Jr. is quoted as saying in the feds' press release. “The defendant in this case knowingly and deliberately made wire transfers to fund terrorist operations overseas, where contributions like these could have a significant and devastating impact on American interests.”

Since I didn't cover the case, I can't add any other witticisms, so just reread Mox's column for the goods…
