There are few times during the year when OC's old-school greaser culture gets to spread out and show its magnitude. The first weekend in July is one of those times, when muscle cars, ripped jean jackets, polka dot skirts and vintage tattoos cover almost every inch of Oak Canyon Ranch in Silverado and the Hootenanny rolls into town. This year's line-up saw a number of familiar and legendary faces return to the ranch to celebrate a slice of '50s Americana that most people tend to forget. Luckily, we were able to make it out for the Hoot's 16th run in hopes of compiling another sweet list of all the best stuff you missed.
Best Facial Hair: Shooter Jennings
greasy, rockabilly riffs aren't part of Shooter Jennings' repertoire,
he and his band proved that beefy guitars and mountain man facial hair
are always welcome at this revered redneck festival. Armed with a
scruffy Hollywoodian beard and long rocker locks, Jennings led a company
of Southern rock stallions that sported various pedigrees of mustaches
and chin curtains. Their bushy aesthetic allowed them to shred with
distinction amidst a sea of clean-shaved, pompadour-wearing tough guys.
Special props to the guitar player who's woolly Jesus beard seemed to
improve his playing by about 10 percent (rough estimate).
Best Accordion Solo: Los Fabulocos feat. Kid Ramos
Best Use Of The Word “Poontang”: Roger Alan Wade
Best Female Response: Nick 13
Best Celebrity Sighting: Johnny Knoxville
