As if anyone needed another reason to love the music of George Gershwin: Many popular songs from his repertoire were brought to life by legendary New York City Ballet choreographer George Balanchine in 1970 in the dance production Who Cares? more than thirty years after Gershwin left this world for the big orchestra in the sky. Who Cares? remains a staple to most of the dance world and continues to be performed by the NYCB company, but tonight, local lovers of dance are able to enjoy it from the Orange County Ballet Theater, OCs non-profit dance company. Momentum 2014 brings together two new choreographers, Viktor Kabaniaev and Westside Dance Project’s Jessie Riley, for a new creative vision of Who Cares? and Balanchine’s other great production, Serenade, based on the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
