The Orange and Newport Beach police departments hold separate DUI/drivers license checkpoints starting at 8 tonight.
Orange’s operation runs until 3 a.m., but the one in Newport Beach knocks off an hour earlier.
Neither police agency released locations.
Newport Beach Police Sgt. Rachel Johnson says DUI collisions in town have claimed three lives and resulted in 115 injury crashes harming 157 people over the past three years.
Each department receives funding for checkpoints from California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
