OMGzerz! 'High School Musical 3' Opens Tonight!

What 2008 music event is bigger than Coachella, All Points West, Lollapalooza, Madonna's “Sticky N Sweet Tour,” the New Kids on the Block reunion and even Wayne Brady's show last night at the House of Blues in Anaheim?

Yes, it's Disney's “High School Musical 3,” premiering at midnight tonight at theaters across the county (this is the home of Disneyland, after all), much to the delight of yelping preteens, tweens and pretweens, and probably some creepy old dudes. Don't hate, appreciate: The first soundtrack was the best-selling album of 2006, and the second came in at No. 8 for 2007 (and that one didn't come out until mid-August). The third film's soundtrack came out on Tuesday, and if the best indicator of the future is indeed the past, that one will probably sell some records as well.

Unconvinced of the franchise's awesome awesomeness? Check out this video of Ashley Tisdale singing “Bop to the Top” (from the first “HSM”) with Kermit the Frog, on recent Disney Channel special “Studio DC.” Someone else just might make a surprise appearance! (Spoiler: It's Miss Piggy.) Even if you're not into the whole “HSM” thing (and let's be honest, if you're reading this blog, you probably aren't), who can resist the Muppets, other than soulless automatons who are dead inside.
