OC Rock 'n' Roll Camp For Girls Seeks to Raise Funds Saturday!

The first ever OC Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls may have been postponed last summer, but its backers are dedicated to seeing their vision become reality. The program to hone the musical and cultural skills of young girls ages 8-17 through a series of workshops, classes, rehearsals and a grand finale showcase has a new spaced confirmed for this year, they just need help raising funds to make it all happen.

To that end, the Orange County Center for Contemporary Arts (OCCCA) will play host to an open meeting about the girls camp on Saturday evening. The event will feature music, art and information about how to get involved in the project.

“Consider it our grand opening party,” says volunteer coordinator Candace Hansen.

Up until recently, organizers were still looking for potential venues for the
week-long intensive project, but that piece of puzzle has been found.
“We got a space!” Hansen says excitedly noting the paperwork had
just been signed. The OC Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls will take place at
the Shoreline Baptist Church in Fountain Valley.

At the event to help them get there, Two Piece Extra Spicy, formed out of the Los Angeles Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, will perform alongside ¡Aparato! and DJ Michelle. The Weekly's very own Exene Cervenka is set to exhibit artwork as well as other local artists such as Darla Diggs and Stephanie Riggs.

But the evening is not all about entertainment. “There
will be a presentation about the program, information on how to get
involved, and interactive tables along with the artists and performers,” Hansen adds.
