Sorry, I was trying to set a record for most abbrev. in a blog title.
The schedule for NYC's CMJ Music Marathon was announced today, and Long Beach's Crystal Antlers (pictured), Costa Mesa's Japanese Motors and Laguna Beach's Donavon Frankenreiter are among the performers ready to entertain music industry wags, record promoters and overstimulated college radio staffers in the big city for the first time.
Each fall, the College Music Journal puts on the event as kind of an east coast SXSW. At least that's what I think it's supposed to be. I went to it a few years ago as a representative of my college radio station, and I wasn't quite sure what the point was, though it was obviously fun. It definitely didn't seem to have very much to do with college radio; I for sure wonder how many universities can justify, in this economy, sending students to New York City to watch rock concerts and get drunk at open bar parties. I did get to see Thurston Moore get up on a speaker, though, so that was cool.
No matter what, it's definitely solid exposure for the bands involved, so yay to them. The concerts they play are called “showcases,” after all, which even sounds like good exposure. Show info after the jump, for those looking to live vicariously through those lucky enough to attend.
1 a.m. Saturday night at the Bowery Ballroom
9 p.m. Friday at the Bowery Ballroom
10 p.m. Thursday at the Highline Ballroom
If you want to get really frustrated, browse the full schedule here. Or maybe you're actually going, in which case, kudos.
