OC DIY Fundraiser Shows Support the Building of a New DIY Venue in OC

The south Orange County music scene is getting a breath of fresh air, due in large part to local music collective OC DIY. A combined effort of artists and musicians who aim to connect bands in the area a place to play, they've organized shows throughout all of Orange County including skate shops, art supply stores, DIY venues like Can U Not/Top Acid, Table 87, and various small businesses in the Laguna area, not to mention their ongoing Friendship Trail concerts in scenic nature locations. Now the group are striving towards their own DIY venue, and instead of going the crowdfunding route, they're throwing a series of shows to raise their first goal of $5000.

Tonight's show at San Clemente Art Supply (DIY for life, you guys) is a full-on fundraiser event that includes a raffle for prizes donated from local businesses from the area. There's also a visual art display that includes the trippy, melted watercolor paintings of Beverly Salas, works by GERM, Nadiya Dubova, and more.

Ah yes, and then there's the music. Music starts around 6pm with the post rock stylings of The Human Machine from Orange, experimental shoegaze by Conheartist, the black metal and hardcore of Recluse, post rock by Aliso Viejo's Pedestrian, and San Clemente's own indie rockers Red Curtain. The organic mobilization of these lads to provide an all ages, sober environment will be a great addition to the local music fabric, and in a place where DIY venues are mostly lacking, it's easy to predict OC DIY's space will attract a large audience. Stay tuned for future shows they already have lined up, and support local musicians out to make a difference by checking out OC DIY's Facebook page. See you there!
