No-Host Bar Unlikely at All-Day DUI Summit

County Supervisor Todd Spitzer has brought together a variety of experts and advocates for an “Orange County DUI Summit” from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Concordia University in Irvine.

Ah, for the Don Draper days when they'd serve cocktails at these deals.

Representatives from the Autombile Club of Southern California, the Orange County Health Care Agency, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the state Office of Traffic Safety, the Orange County District Attorney's office and Orange County police and sheriff administrations–some of whom belong to the Orange County DUI Task Force–join DUI experts and the mother of a woman killed in a DUI car crash at the summit.

Checkpoints, saturation patrols, public awareness campaigns, responsible beverage service, social host ordinances, data on driving drunk or on drugs in Orange County and more will be discussed at the event, according to a statement from Spitzer's office. Summit participants will be encouraged to take back information they receive to their respective cities or entities.

Don't know if DUI defense attorneys are invited to join the fun in DeNault Auditorium, 1530 Concordia, Irvine (free parking!), but one of them–Randy Collins of MacGregor & Collins, LLP in Newport Beach–recently emailed over the United States DUI infographic you'll find on the next page after this statement from the chap: “Our hope is that those who would have chosen to drive while
intoxicated will reevaluate their decision after reading our
informational pieces. Our Orange County DUI clients are not bad people.
In fact, the majority of our drunken driving clients had a lapse in
judgment for which they experience a great deal of remorse.”
