No. 53: A Big Ol' Plate of Rice With Must-o-Musir at Wholesome Choice

Welcome to the
Weekly's list of our 100 Favorite Dishes for 2011! Tune in every day until we get to número uno! Now, on to the latest entry. . . .

Talk about weird: Last year, I gave the Persian buffet at Wholesome Choice the 55th slot on our 100 fave dishes list for 2010. This year, we find a more specific choice, which is really the simplest thing available–just a big ol' heap of the regular rice and a side of yogurt with shallots, otherwise known as must-o-musir.

The above picture also features a kooftah, the ground-beef ball compacted with beans around a date, but it's really not necessary. Wholesome Choice's rice is so succulent, so fluffy that you can eat it as is and have a splendorous lunch. Don't get me wrong–all of the polos are near-perfect, and I've always favored the one with dozens of little dates. How telling of Wholesome Choice's quality that I usually don't bother with those in favor of the cheaper, regular rice.

But it's the addition of the tart, cooling must-o-musir that anchors this simple, perfect meal. The dip must be bought separately, but for about $10, you have a meal that can gift you a breakfast, lunch and dinner for three straight days. Trust me on this one, as I've done it more than a few times. . . .
