Dave, Edwin, Shuji and I are still pretty pho'ed out from our epic Final Pho tournament earlier this year; otherwise, the winning Pho Thanh Lich would've probably placed higher on this list (remember that it's favorite, not best). All that said, YOU, gentle reader, probably haven't had a bowl of pho during this brutal summer; as the nights get chillier and we switch over to Pacific Standard Time soon, it's time to visit the best happy hour in the county.

From my review a couple of months ago:
Even better than the pho, even better than the Christmas wreaths that stay up year-round, the helpful color graphics on the walls advertising specials, the whitewashed bricks that hint at its diner past in Thanh Lich's building and the complimentary cup of che that looks like cream of potato soup but is a spectacular custard-esque dessert, is the happy hour–not for alcohol, but for pho. From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day, you can order Orange County's best pho for an outrageous $2.99–same stunning broth, same toothsome cuts. People: Bow before your pho king-god, and don't forget the napkins.
An evening sup of the pho also means the broth will murkier, richer, the beef cuts somehow chewier and fatter. Damn, just writing about Pho Thanh Lich is making me hungry for a bowl, even though I had more pho over the course of a month than most Viets will have in their lives…
