No. 10: Fugazza at Pasta Connection

Like Kasey Kasem, we're counting down the hits, except ours nourish your belly as well as your soul. Just a few weeks left in our listicle of listicles known as 100 Favorite Dishes (INSERT YEAR). YEAH!!!

One of the most pendejo things I've EVER said was to my Profe of Argentine history. As a teenager who never grew up around any Argies, I mentioned to him a restaurant in Orange that served Italian and Argentine food as if it were some revelation! The good Profe let me off easy on that one.

Since then, I've learned more both about Argentina's history: La Semana Trágica, Perón, The Cordabazo and its food: pampa steak, empanadas and last, but not least, fugazza.

Having dined at Pasta Connection for years now, I've also learned this about the quiet and cozy place: If your chica is non-pretentious, make it a date night destination. Impress your company by ordering fugazza. No, no, indie rockers, not Fugazi, but fugazza, an Argentine pizza derived from Italian focaccia.

The dish will take about twenty or so minutes to come out of the kitchen. When it does, taste buds will be delighted by its mozzarella cheese and sweet onion toppings. Being a fan of all its fixings, I enjoy Pasta Connection's take better than any other pizza out there.

Amplify it all by ordering the fugazzeta: a much, much cheesier, thicker crust version with ham and copious onions piled on the pie-sized slices!
