Anthony Castillo, the 31-year-old man wanted for allegedly taking his 5-year-old son after killing the boy's mother and boyfriend in Anaheim early Wednesday, was shot and killed by police that same night.

Undercover officers traced Castillo to Loara Street and Juno Avenue in Anaheim, where he was shot and wounded by police fire. Police say the suspect was armed and a gun was found near him.

Castillo was taken around 6 p.m. to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m. later that night.

He is suspected of having killed Heather Courtney Sorensen, 31, and Stephen Rene
Serna
, 35, nearly 17 hours earlier.

Shots rang out around 5:45 a.m. at the Mariposa Apartment Homes, 225
S. Rio Vista St., near Lincoln Avenue. Police say an armed Castillo showed
up at Sorensen's unit and argued with the mother of his son before shooting
her and her boyfriend, Serna.

Sorensen was later declared dead at the scene. Serna died around
8 a.m. Wednesday at a hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his
head.

Castillo fled with his boy, and police mounted an intense manhunt. The 5-year-old was later found unharmed at his grandparents' home.

Orange County Register reports that Anaheim police had previous
contact with Castillo as recently as two weeks ago, when they responded
to a domestic dispute at the double-murder address.

Another woman and her child, who lived in the apartment with the female victim and her child, were home at the time of the shootings and were taken to the Anaheim Police Department for questioning, the Register previously reported.
