Irvine's Jen Schumacher, who pushed off from Catalina Island around midnight and swam the channel to the Palos Verdes shore, arrived safely just before 9 this morning. Her official time: 9:02:43.
After swimming past trash and plastic bags in the ocean, Schumacher decided to embark on the treacherous, 21-mile trek to raise money for the Surfrider Foundation.
