SEACREST OUT, UZOMAH BACK IN Remember Chidi Benjamin
Uzomah Jr., the 25-year-old Lakewood resident who pleaded guilty last month in Orange County Superior Court to misdemeanor assault, battery
and possession of a switchblade knife two or more inches long in connection with his trying to get too close to Ryan Seacrest outside Children's Hospital of Orange
County in Orange on Sept. 13? Police say Uzomah is at it again. He was allegedly armed with a knife Friday morning when he walked into the lobby of the E! Entertainment building where Seacrest hosts
his KISS-FM radio show and E! News Daily but was detained by security guards before he get could close to the pint-sized American Idol host. Uzomah, who was handed over to  LAPD officers, was sentenced to 15 days in jail, three years probation and ordered to
stay away from CHOC and Seacrest after the September incident in which he attacked a security guard standing between Uzomah and Seacrest, who was unaware of the fracas. “His aggressive and violent efforts to come into physical
contact with me are extremely frightening to me,” Seacrest declared in justifying the restraining order to the court. “They have jeopardized
not only my personal safety but also the safety and well-being of those
around me.” Now, TMZ reports the Army has apologized to Seacrest because Uzomah was a sergeant with the
Army Reserves under the 426th Civil Affairs Battalion-a part of the
Army's special forces. “We apologize to Ryan Seacrest,” Army spokesman Lt. Col. Nathan Banks is quoted as saying. “Pending the outcome of the local
investigation, the Army will decide what further action to take. We
take all matters of our personnel seriously.”

Comes Up Empty A man wearing a dark blue baseball hat, long-sleeve shirt and
blue jeans walked into the Wells Fargo Bank at 2970 Harbor Blvd., Costa Mesa, around 11 a.m. and handed a teller a note stating he had a gun, although no one saw one. Fearing the teller activated an alarm, he fled cashless. He was described as Hispanic, 5 feet 8, 190 pounds, with brown eyes, brown hair, a mustache and glasses. Know him? Call Detective Dana

TUESDAY, OCT. 20

A Threat to Steal As they played baseball at Huntington Beach High School this afternoon, 10 dirt baggers had items ripped off from their bags.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 21

Freeze Frame Huntington Beach police received a call around 5:45 p.m. from a resident in the 17100 block of Bolsa Chica Street concerned because his neighbor had been
sitting in the same position on a couch for four hours. When officers
responded, they discovered why: the man was dead.

THURSDAY, OCT. 22

No Way to Treat a Lady After shopping, an 80-year-old woman got out of her car around 1 p.m. in the lot at the Kona Kai Mobile Home Park at 4117 W.
McFadden Ave., Santa Ana, where she was struck on the head with an unknown
object. She collapsed and neighbors called paramedics
who rushed her to the hospital. The robber or robbers, who no one saw, made off with the lady's purse. The Santa Ana Police

FRIDAY, OCT. 23

Fast Times at Savanna High Two girls, one age 16 and the other 17, walked into the Anaheim Police Department today to independentally report they had been sexually assaulted by the same man. Anaheim resident Marc Alan
Silberman, a 27-year-old substitute teacher, has been charged with one felony count of sexual
penetration by foreign object of a minor and one misdemeanor count of
child annoyance. He allegedly engaged the 16-year-old student in an inappropriate sexual conversation during class at Savanna High School on Oct. 22, then requested she remain
after class. Once the other students had left the room,
Silberman is accused of digitally penetrating the girl in the vacant
classroom. While teaching a different class at the same school on Oct. 9, Silberman allegedly passed
inappropriate sexual notes to the 17-year-old student and grabbed her around
her waist. Authorities are now trying to determine if there might be other victims. Contact Supervising District Attorney

Watch For Falling Britches Sheriff's deputies received a call around 11:15 a.m. about a couple having sex in a car parked outside the Wal-Mart in the 900 block of East Avenida Pico in San Clemente. Do you also get the feeling that the spectacle could not possibly have been hot?

Bloody, Can You Spare a Dime? A beggar in bloody trousers stood outside the 7-Eleven store in the 1800 block of North El Camino Real in San Clemente around 8 a.m., asking passersby for spare change.

MONDAY, OCT. 26

Senior Ditch Day? A
woman returned to her home in the 5700 block of Edinger Avenue in Huntington Beach just before 9:45 a.m. to find a high school-age boy in her dining room.
When she asked him why he wasn't in school, he up and walked out the back door, never to be seen again.

TUESDAY, OCT. 27

Cops and Robbers, Except the Cops Are Allegedly Robbers, Too Santa Ana police today arrested Michelle Garcia, 32, of Santa Ana, on
suspicion of being part of a three-person team that committed a string
of robberies while impersonating police officers. Her alleged partner Showkat
Rahimi, 26, of Corona, was arrested at his home on Oct. 9 after a school security officer saw a flier about the crimes and contacted police saying he'd stopped someone fitting the suspect's description. That led police to Rahimi's address, where the white Ford Crown Victoria believed used in the robberies was also found. Currently being held at Theo Lacy on suspicion of three felony counts of robbery, three felony
counts of impersonating an officer and three felony counts of false
imprisonment, Rahimi pleaded not
guilty at his Oct. 14 arraignment and is due back in court on Nov. 19. Garcia, who was being held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $104,000 bail, has been charged with two felony counts of robbery, two felony
counts
of impersonating a police officer, two felony counts of false
imprisonment, felony possession of a controlled substance and felony
unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Police
are still looking for a woman described as Latina, 20 to 25, 5 feet to 5 feet 3, 90 to 110 pounds with black shoulder length hair.
Call Santa Ana police at (714) 245-8422 if you have information. During four separate incidents over a month, the trio allegedly robbed $2,000 from five victims. In one incident, a man in a law enforcement uniform driving a white Crown
Victoria approached a man, frisked him and took his wallet containing $400. In another robbery, the man had a handgun in his waistband as he patted down a victim and took $200, and in a third he got $540. Two women dressed in black garb with “security” written across their backs emerged from the same Crown Victoria to pull pretty much the same stunt in the fourth heist. 

A Family Affair Orange County District Attorney
investigators and San Bernardino County sheriff's
deputies today arrested Jaelyne Jacsen, 48, outside of her Victorville home for allegedly stealing $6,500 in public assistance fraud by cheating the system after
moving out of OC and continuing to receive aid illegally. As a bonus, the lawmen also discovered a 22-year-old fugitive hiding in a
bedroom closet in Jacsen's home. Jaycen Harold McCullen had a probation violation warrant for his arrest out of
Orange County stemming from a 2006 robbery. Jacsen is
accused of allowing McCullen, who is being held without bail, to live in her home and share a
room with her 15-year-old daughter, whom McCullen fathered a child
with, now 2 months old. The daughter, the baby and Jacsen's 6-year-old grandson were taken into protective custody, and seven dogs, six cats, and two
hamsters were impounded from the home. Jacsen, who was charged with four felony counts
of perjury by false application for aid and one felony count of
receiving aid by misrepresentation, faces a maximum sentence of
five years and eight months in state prison if convicted on all counts. She allegedly applied for Orange County public
assistance while living in Lake Forest and qualified for a
state program called “Safe at Home” where she could maintain a
confidential address when receiving public financial aid. But between July 1, 2008, and Jan. 31,
2009, she is accused of
fraudulently collecting the $6,500 from OC despite having moved to Riverside and San Bernardino County. Investigators say evidence found in Jacsen's home indicate she was involved in other 
potential crimes–including real estate fraud,
identity theft, forging public or government documents–and authorities are seeking the public's help in locating other possible victims. She apparently has used Joyalynn Davis, Joya
Daaliymple and Joyalynn Darlrymple as aliases, she is a licensed escrow agent and
notary and she has recently lived in Lake Elsinore, Menifee, San Jacinto,
Hemet, and Victorville. She was also a Cal State Fullerton student who lectured there about domestic violence. Anyone with additional

Washed Out Sheriff's deputies were called around 11 a.m. to the 1800 block of North El Camino Real in San Clemente, where a woman said she was arguing with her boyfriend when he allegedly told her some of his friends “on the building's roof” were
going to hurt her. Pro surfer Joe Crimo, 36, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.

Card 'Em Costa Mesa police and California
Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) conducted undercover sting operations
at 28 locations in the city today aimed at deterring the sale of
alcohol to minors. Four
people were arrested and five citations were issued during the
five-hour operation, which will continue over the next eight months at
363 ABC licensed locations throughout Costa Mesa.

Young Robbers, Younger Victims A 14-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl were walking home on the east side of an apartment
building in the 3900 block of West Fifth Street in Santa Ana around 9:15 p.m. when two men
and a woman holding a handgun came up and ordered them to “give
up everything they had.” The teens gave up a cell
phone, an iPod, cash and clothing before the trio fled through a parking lot on Harbor Boulevard and Hazard Avenue and into the darkness. The gunwoman was described as Latina, 20, 5 feet 7, 180 pounds, with long orange hair and wearing a white jacket
and jeans. One man was Latino, 20, 5 feet 5, 200 pounds and wearing a black jacket and jeans. The other
man was Latino, 20, 5 feet 3, 220 pounds and wearing a big t-shirt and jeans.   

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 28

Stolen Car's Discovery Leads to Double Murder Arrest After sales associate Matthew Francis Scott and his longtime secretary Elizabeth Ann Palmer
were killed execution-style with shots to the head inside the Golden Sun Homes business office on Beach Boulevard in Stanton on Feb. 9, their murderer escaped in Palmer's Lexus sedan. After searching for the vehicle for months, police found the Lexus today at the El Dorado Inn on Lincoln Avenue in Anaheim, and evidence inside the stolen sedan led to the arrest of Garden Grove resident Hilbert Pineil Thomas,
38, in the
double murders. Thomas, who is being held without bail on two felony counts of special circumstance murder
with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm
causing death, could get death if convicted.

Good Dad, Bad Teens After having pushed his 18-month-old son in a
stroller around San Clemente pier, a man was putting his boy back in the car when he was approached by three teens who proceeded to pull a knife and rob him while the tot was still in his arms. The trio made off with the man's wallet and hopped into a
Toyota 4Runner. Deputies patrolling San Clemente shortly thereafter  little while
later saw a Toyota 4Runner, pulled it over and inside found three teens, the man's stolen wallet and a knife. Two teens, being juveniles, were not identified, but 18-year-old Justin Curtis of Oceanside was. He was booked on suspicion of armed robbery and held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

FRIDAY, OCT. 30

Adding Injuries to Injury Two boys believed to be about 12 years old were seen striking a dog with miniature baseball bats near Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach today before a man intervened and called
authorities. Maggie, a pit bull mix, was later cared for at Advanced Critical Care Veterinary
Hospital in Tustin for multiple
broken bones, skin lacerations and some nerve damage to a front leg.
The veterinarian who treated her thinks Maggie may have been hit by
a car before limping off the street and being confronted by the unidentified boys. The Animal Assistance League,
which rushed Maggie to the vet
hospital, offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of her tormenters. Call (714) 893-4393 if you know anything, would like to donate for Maggie's care or to possibly adopt her.

Surf's Up, My iPod's Gone! Police today arrested a man and a woman suspected of ripping off more
than a dozen surfers in recent weeks. Officers had received 16 reports
from surfers who had emerged from the water only to discover their cars
had been burglarized with no signs of forced entry. Wallets, iPods and cell phones were among the items stolen. After deducing that
the thieves had secretly watched the surfers hide their keys before
entering the breaks, police staked out the beach and say they observed Nathan Pater,
32, of Huntington
Beach, take a key from its hiding place and break into a car before
arresting him around 8:15 a.m. Cops also nabbed the alleged getaway
driver, Amber Marie Hintz, 27, of Garden Grove. Besides burglary charges, both were popped for fraudulent use of credit cards and
conspiracy.

CalTrans Robber? A person, possibly male, wearing a mask
walked into Share
Plus Federal Bank, 17901 Von Karman Ave., Irvine, around 9:30 a.m., displayed what was described as a small black handgun
and demanded cash. He was last seen fleeing on foot. He or she was described as 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, wearing dark pants and an orange reflective vest
over a dark jacket.

SATURDAY, OCT. 31

How Dry He Now Is Two employees of the Ralphs supermarket in the 17000 block of Harvard in Irvine followed a man to the parking lot just
before 2 p.m. because they suspected he had not paid for several bottles of liquor.
As they asked to see his his receipt,
the man ignored the workers and instead hopped into his vehicle aimed at fleeing. But one of the employees steered a shopping cart in front of
the vehicle to stop him. It did not work, as he hit the accelerator, knocking
the cart into the worker's stomach. The car's side mirror hit the other employee as the
car sped off, but both still managed to get its license plate number. That led officers to a nearby apartment complex and Sheddrick Shondell Nick, 39, of
Corona. Police believe Nick had borrowed the car of a friend who lived in the apartment. He was arrested on suspicion
of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, shoplifting and burglary. Bottles of whiskey, vodka, champagne and Long
Island iced tea valued at $350 were found in a laundry hamper under some clothing in the
friend's apartment, cops say.

Messed With the Wrong Lady Two teenage girls tried to steal a woman's purse in a shopping center at Camino Capistrano
and Del Obispo Street in San Juan Capistrano around 4 p.m.–but they got chased down by the woman instead. She managed to get her purse back and a description of the would-be thieves. One had long blond hair,
a nose ring, a red and black jacket and black boots, while the other was
wearing a purple sweater. Police spotted the girls, picked them up and took them to their waiting parents in San Clemente.

Happy Halloween! Five men dressed as the Village People were
reportedly drinking beer in the middle of the street in the 500 block of Kevin Way in Placentia late tonight. However, by the time officers arrived, they were gone–perhaps to the YMCA, a Navy ship or Fire Island.

SUNDAY, NOV. 1

Mysterious Officer-Involved Shooting Police summoned to a drive-by shooting in the 1000 block of South Standard in Santa Ana just after 5:45 p.m. came upon a man fleeing from a vehicle. He was followed to Kilson Drive, where an
unidentified officer fired his sidearm at him just before 6 p.m. No one was hit, but the suspect, also unidentified, was arrested . . . for something or other. Why the officer opened fire remains a mystery, the investigation is ongoing and further details, as they say in the funny papers, remain sketchy as this is posted.

MONDAY, NOV. 2

Tangle on Tanglewood Sheriff's deputies received a report just before 4 p.m. of a man
with no teeth on Tanglewood in Aliso Viejo asking for money and, when he was told no, becoming “a little lippy.”

Vehicle vs. Bicycle: Vehicle Wins A 54-year-old man was riding his bicycle west on Broadway between
Atchison Street and Kroeger Street in Anaheim about 5:30 p.m. when the
bike was struck by a dark colored SUV or minivan. Paramedics arrived to
treat the bicyclist and take him to a local hospital, where he was
listed in critical condition with head trauma and other internal
injuries. Police, meanwhile, were searching for the hit-and-run driver.
Investigators believe there should be damage to the right side of
the vehicle and the right side mirror. Anyone who saw the collision or
has information regarding the case is asked to call traffic
investigators at (714) 765-1961.

Jerks on Bikes A woman carrying two backpacks was walking north on Harbor Boulevard near
Westminster Boulevard in Garden Grove around 9:45 p.m. when two men came up from
behind her. One, who was on a bike, pedaled past and stopped in front of her while the
other tried to take her backpacks. When she fell to the ground, he took her packs before jumping onto
the handlebars of the other man's bicycle as it sped off into the night.

TUESDAY, NOV. 3

One Robbery, Four Arrests A 28-year-old Los Angeles man was walking in an alley at
100 W. Commonwealth Avenue in Fullerton just before 12:30 a.m. when a
dark-colored Saturn stopped in front of him, two other men
jumped out and one stranger pointed a handgun at the
midnight stroller, demanding money. The Angeleno only had $20, which he gave to the robber along with his cell phone, before the robbing pair jumped back into the Saturn that darted off eastbound on Commonwealth. A vehicle description and partial license plate number was broadcast to
area police agencies, and about 45 minutes later Placentia police officers stopped a Saturn at
Placentia Avenue and Center Street, finding a gun and cell phone similar to the one stolen in Fullerton inside. Fullerton officers arrived on the scene to arrest
four people in connection with the robbery: Mario Perez, 18, of
Placentia; Hector Hernandez, 19, of Placentia; a boy from Placentia and
a girl from Fullerton. The adults went to Orange County Jail, the juvies to Juvenile Hall and all were held on suspicion of armed
robbery and a gang enhancement.

Anyone Remember the Late, Great George Carlin's Line About an Off-Duty Officer Being Shot By an On-Duty Criminal? This is Like That, Only Different An off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was
using the ATM at the Chase bank at 14011 Beach Boulevard, Westminster, just before 7 a.m. when he was approached by a man who tried to use a replica handgun to rob
him. Instead, the deputy pulled out a real gun and fired three shots at the would-be robber fleeing though the parking lot asnd down an alley. He got away but was described as Latino, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, 160 pounds with unkempt,
short hair and a mustache, wearing a dark hoodie and blue
jeans. Parts of the
replica handgun were later found in an alley near Cedarwood Street and
Westminster Boulevard. A
Honda Accord stolen from Garden Grove was recovered near the scene, and police are wondering if the same suspect can be linked to a successful armed robbery at an ATM in Garden Grove the same morning. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Alan Aoki at
(714) 898-3315, ext. 336. He is investigating the robbery, while the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department probes the shooting. No one knows if the would-be robber was struck by a bullet.

Stylish Robber A man wearing a black fedora robbed the Bank of
America branch in the 32500 block of Golden Lantern in Dana Point just before 10 a.m. this morning. He was also wearing mirror sunglasses and a white button
shirt and was further described as African-American, in his 20s,
under six feet tall and of medium build.
