Crime Time: Boozy Mom, Asshole Cop, Thieving Aliens, Fast-Acting Pharmacist and Lotsa Stabbers

It's the Weekly's weekly round-up of local police calls–now with more boozy moms, asshole cops, fast-acting pharmacists, apartments full of thieving aliens and loads of stabbings!

MONDAY, AUG. 31

Grand Theft Amp Meets Grand Theft Auto An amplifier and a speaker, valued at $600 collectively, were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 2800 block of Bayview in Corona del Mar before 7 a.m. Maybe they wound up here: in the 2007 BMW 750 LI that was stolen out a couple hours later out of a home's garage in the 400 block of De Sola Terrace. The thief may have used a garage door opener to get to the $50,000 ride.

I'd Hate to Have Ask Him for Rent A 31-year-old man says he was arguing with his roommate in an apartment at 633 E. Birch St., Brea, around 4:50 p.m. when Clemente Geronimo Santiago, 42, pulled out a small knife and stabbed the first man in the head. Police arrived to find the victim nursing three stab wounds, including on through his left ear. He was taken to a hospital. Santiago was later apprehended at a friend's nearby apartment and held on suspicion of attempted murder.

Shot Up in Santa Ana A man was discovered to have been shot four times in the upper body in the 1000 block of South Parton Street in Santa Ana just before 8 p.m. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, but police had little to go on, other than suspecting it was a gang-related shooting.

The Sword is Mightier This Time An unidentified woman called her father from her Fullerton apartment and said she was hearing voices, so he dispatched her 15-year-old brother to help her. Once there around 11 p.m., the woman grabbed a sword and began stabbing herself in the legs and body before turning the blade on the boy, who managed to disarm her before calling the cops. His injuries were not serious, and she was taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment, observation and, eventually, booking.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 1

2 Men, 2 Sets of Stab Wounds, No Knife This much is clear: 29-year-old Wilson Ricardo Portillo and 34-year-old Roberto Medina had been fighting, fisticuffs turned into knife play and both men were stabbed. But when sheriff's deputies arrived near the apartment complex at the 23000 block of Los Alisos Boulevard in Lake Forest just after midnight, they found one man with a cut in the back of his head, the second a short distance away tending to cuts in his stomach and arm and no admission from either as to where the knife was or if anyone even had one. They wound up at Mission Hospital for treatment.

Figures: A Yankee Fan A man toting a semiautomatic handgun held up the Shell gas station on East Avenida Pico in San Clemente shortly before 1 a.m. He grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash before darting off in a white sedan. He was described as black, 6 feet tall, wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap and all-black clothing.

Knock-Knock . . .  A woman heard loud banging on her front door on Cedar Avenue in Fullerton around 10 p.m. When she opened the door, she discovered a 3-year-old girl crying on the front porch. Police later arrived to walk the girl up and down the street before she pointed at a home. Officers knocked and when no one answered they went inside. They found the girl's mother unconscious and apparently drunk on the floor and her other 6-year-old daughter asleep in a bedroom. The kids were taken to Orangewood Children's Home, while their mother was checked in to Fullerton City Jail on suspicion of child endangerment.

Knock-Knocks II and III A woman heard a knock on her door in the 2700 block of Wickersham Place in Fullerton around 10 p.m. and, peering out the window, she saw a man on the front porch. She headed upstairs instead of answering, but when she came back down again he was standing in the doorway. Her screams apparently drove him away. A half hour later, in the 2600 block of Trieste Way, a woman heard a loud knock on her door, and when she went downstairs to lock her doors she heard the garage door open. Peering outside, she saw a man running to a waiting vehicle she described as a late-model Lexus with tinted back windows. A set of golf clubs was later reported missing from the home.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 2

Next Stop: Birther Healthcare Anti-School Town Hall? A man called police around 7:30 a.m. to report that his truck and bicycles were stolen from his home at 101 E. Hermosa Drive, Fullerton. But when an officer arrived to ask about the crime, William Eric Hamren, 36, allegedly picked up a large stick and ordered the cop off the property. With the help of additional backup, Hamren was detained. His roommate told officers there was a shotgun in Hamren's bedroom, while Hamren directed them to two safes in his garage, giving up the combinations. Inside officers found thousands of rounds of ammunition and five, four-inch pipe bombs. Police claim Hamren threatened officers and President Barack Obama, so he was interviewed by Secret Service agents at a local psych ward before being whisked away to jail.

Pharmacist Pulls a Fast One A man claiming to have a gun demanded OxyContin from the pharmacist at the CVS pharmacy at 3911 South Bristol St., Santa Ana, around 5 p.m. When the pharmacist refused, the man jumped the counter and began to tussle with the pharmacist, who finally relented and handed over the pills. Meanwhile, store employees called 9-1-1. and police arrived in time to capture Timothy Wade Voroshuck, 30, who was arrested on suspicion of robbery and false imprisonment. He would not have liked his booty anyway: the pharmacist had handed him Tylenol instead of Oxy.

Held Up While Going Down A woman was taking the elevator to the basement at the Hacienda Santa Ana apartments at 502 East Sixth St. around 5 p.m. when a man riding next to her grabbed the necklace from her neck, pulled a knife out and demanded the rest of her jewelry and purse. At the first floor, another man entered the elevator, and he was told to hand over his wallet. Once all three reached the basement, the robber fled. He was described as Hispanic, age 28-29, 5 feet 3 to 5 feet 4, 140-145 pounds with black hair and dressed in jeans and a short-sleeve shirt.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 3

Boy Won't Stop So He's Shot A 16-year-old boy was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk near the 300 block of East St. Andrew Place in Santa Ana around 10:30 a.m. when he made some kind of violation that prompted a police officer to order him to stop. Instead, the unidentified boy took off and a chase ensued. He ditched the bike on Rousselle Street and fled on foot through backyards. In the 2000 block of South Kilson Drive, an officer fired a shot, striking the boy in the body. He was later listed in stable condition at a local hospital. Police later reported he was a documented gang member with an outstanding no-bail probation violation at the time of the chase, during which a discarded weapon was found by pursuing officers. That will likely bring a slew of charges once the lad recovers.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 4

A Compact? Probably a Ford Fusion With all the misery above, leave it to plucky Huntington Beach to bring some more light-hearted Friday calls, like the one just before 5:30 a.m. involving two people having sex “both inside and outside a gray compact car” in the 20500 block of Pierview Lane. Five-and-a-half hours later, a man in the 8000 block of Ellis Avenue called police to report he had just been robbed by aliens–and that there were more aliens in his apartment. So perhaps they were spacemen and not seven kids wearing glow-in-the-dark necklaces seen messing with sprinklers at Spring View Middle School on Trudy Lane around 10:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 5

Being Honest Doesn't Pay A 16-year-old boy and two friends were walking on the sidewalk in the 300 block of Valencia Drive around 8:45 p.m. when a man came up and asked where they were from. When the trio replied they were from the neighborhood, the man pulled out a gun and shot the 16-year-old in the foot before running away. The boy was treated at UCI Medical Center.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 6

Stop Sign Did Not Work Just before 1:30 a.m., a black Toyota Tacoma with the tool box attached to the bed rammed into a stop sign and house at 236 W. Palizada in San Clemente. Despite having flat tire, the truck then drove off. Sheriff's deputies later stopped a truck fitting that description and arrested a Marine, Christopher Daniel Gonzalez, 22.

MONDAY, SEPT. 7

Medical Cannabis Provider or Pot Dealer? A sheriff deputy's pulled a car over that failed to stop at a sign near Ridge Route Road and Rockfield Boulevard in Lake Forest around 11:45 p.m. When the driver rolled down the window, the deputy almost got a contact high. Allegedly. A gram of marijuana was found on the driver, and an additional 97 grams along with baggies and a scale were inside his backpack. Deputies later estimated the street value of the pot at $1,600. David Dunlap of Lake Forest allegedly told the deputy he purchased the marijuana from a nearby medical marijuana dispensary, and further investigation revealed Dunlap had worked there and possessed a medical marijuana card. But the sheriff's department alleges that Dunlap was operating outside the provisions of California's Compassionate Use Act, so he was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana and the transport of marijuana for sale.

TUESDAY, SEPT . 8

So, How Was Your First Day of School? Sonora High School, 401 S. Palm St., La Habra, was put on lockdown for a couple hours after a 17-year-old student was stabbed outside a classroom by another 17- to 19-year-old around 7:40 a.m. The victim was taken to UCI Medical Center but his wounds were not life threatening. A search did not turn up a suspect and the motive for the stabbing remained unclear at press time.
