Six years ago, the Weekly cover story “Electric Horsemen: Is a rodeo mafia covering up evidence of animal abuse in California?” explored allegations by animal-rights organizations–including Orange County People for Animals (OCPA)–that broncos were secretly tazed at the second annual Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo Aug. 24-25, 2002.

Activists say they will be out at Rancho Mission Viejo to “educate the public” about alleged animal
abuse there. Leaflets will be passed out near the rodeo entrance.
They plan to be out from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the Saturday
and noon to 2 p.m. on the Sunday. Just look for the big banners at Ortega Highway and Antonio Parkway/La Pata.
