Activists Again Allege Animal Abuse at San Juan Capistrano Rodeo

Six years ago, the Weekly cover story “Electric Horsemen: Is a rodeo mafia covering up evidence of animal abuse in California?” explored allegations by animal-rights organizations–including Orange County People for Animals (OCPA)–that broncos were secretly tazed at the second annual Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo Aug. 24-25, 2002.

The ninth annual Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo runs Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22-23, at

30753 La Plata Road, San Juan Capistrano . . .

. . . and OCPA vows to be out there raising hollar once again.

]
Activists say they will be out at Rancho Mission Viejo to “educate the public” about alleged animal
abuse there. Leaflets will be passed out near the rodeo entrance.

They plan to be out from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the Saturday
and noon to 2 p.m. on the Sunday. Just look for the big banners at Ortega Highway and Antonio Parkway/La Pata.
