Newport Beach Has DUI Checkpoint TONIGHT While Anaheim's is SATURDAY NIGHT

The Anaheim Police operation is at 1220 East Ball Road from 8 Saturday night through 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Newport Beach Police Sergeant Michael Schiavi reports there have been 186 DUI-related crashes over the past three years that have killed one person and injured 245 others. Over the same period in Anaheim, 12 have died and there have been 413 injury crashes, according to that city's Sergeant G. Bonham. Cops there made 1,650 DUI arrests in those three years.

Funding for each checkpoint comes from California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
