TOMORROW: Two Chances to Rock Out for a Good Cause

Here's fair warning on some cool events going on tomorrow for some good causes, and even better: they're across the street from each other!

Over at Detroit Bar, Orange
County piano rockers Midnight Hour (pictured, I wrote about them back
in December) are playing the “This is Where it Ends: the Music Saves
Lives” concert series, a benefit for, you guessed it, Music Saves Lives.
The organization's Web site describes itself as “the conduit between
music, entertainment and important life-saving causes,” focusing its
efforts on blood donation and bone marrow registry. Pawn Shop Kings and
Janu N and the Whale Sharks are also on the bill. $10, with all
proceeds going to Music Saves Lives.

Across the street at Avalon, DJ Oldboy's regular Thursday night gig will be a benefit for Comics Universe, a comic book shop in Fountain Valley. Comic books and comic book stores are of course very close to my heart (I'm a huge comic dork and dutifully toiled away in a store for two years), so this is like Live Aid for me. As with so many independent shops, the store isn't doing so hot these days, and is in fact closing–the benefit is so the owner can pay off his debt and get his customers their books before shutting down. Though DJ Oldboy tells us that there is a chance that the store might get reopened down the line in a new format that sounds quite cool, so this event might help lead towards that, too. It's $5, with all the proceeds going to the store and the Dig, the Flying Saucers and Head Sounds all playing.
