Surfrider Foundation to Honor Pearl Jam, Incubus and…David Chokachi?

“Forever and always, I'm always here!” Oh, sorry, didn't see you there.

Today the San Clemente-based Surfrider Foundation
announced the recipients of their “Keeper of the Coast Awards,” and
it's a fairly eclectic bunch: Pearl Jam, Incubus, and David Chokachi.
Yeah, David Chokachi, the buff blond dude from Baywatch in the
picture up there. Seems odd, right? Two really famous bands, and a TV
actor that most people haven't thought about in a decade.

Turns out it's not as weird as it seems. According to a press release announcing the award recipients, Chokachi has worked since 2005 as a spokesperson for the organization, dedicated to keeping oceans and beaches clean. So yeah, Baywatch jokes are easy (and sure, maybe even funny), but it looks like Chokachi truly walks the walk in this matter.

Incubus and Pearl Jam both have legitimate environmentalist street cred, too; Incubus through their participation at Surfrider's Celebrity Surf Jam Events and their own non-profit, the Make Yourself Foundation. Pearl Jam, long known for supporting a variety of noble causes, helped out with the Music for Our Mother Ocean albums in the '90s, among many other good deeds. (Plus, their new album, Backspacer, comes out this Sunday. Only available at Target. Hey, if Prince got away with it…)

Surfrider gives out Keeper of the Coast Awards every five years, and this current crop will be awarded October 9 at the California Science Center's Wallis Annenberg Building in Los Angeles. Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 (playing at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine tonight and tomorrow!) hosts, and $200 tickets (hey, it's a fundraiser) are here.
