Slow Fall at the Fox Theater?

Since reopening this past May with a show from Gogol Bordello, the Fox Theater in downtown Pomona has continually impressed by netting top-flight shows: Wilco, the Flaming Lips, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Band of Horses, Girl Talk, Ween, Cake, Marilyn Manson. After tonight's Paramore (pictured on August 1 opening up for No Doubt at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine) show, though, they've got…not a lot.

Actually, after Paramore, they have exactly one show on their schedule: Sonic Youth on January 8, a show that was originally scheduled for September 25 and pushed back due to guitarist Lee Ranaldo's tennis injury. So for more than three months, the Fox has nothing on their slate, other than the semi-regular Club Matinee all-ages dance nights, which are coming up on this Friday; Wednesday, November 25; and Saturday, December 26.

There's also a Morrissey show on December 7, not yet announced by the venue, but widely reported by fansites over the last week and a half. That's a huge show, but still more than two months away. The Halloween show at the Fox with the Nekromantix and the Horrorpops was scrapped after the Nekromantix jumped on tour with Rob Zombie (playing November 1 at the Grove of Anaheim).

So the simple question is: where are the shows? The remodeled Fox Theater is one of this area's most impressive venues, but looking at the current schedule shows a lingering concern that they might have blown their load with their initial offerings. Hopefully, like Morrissey, there's more shows waiting in the wings to be announced, and we're just waiting for the next flurry. Ah, Moz: a beacon of hope, like always.
