ALSO TONIGHT: Little Joy at Detroit; Acrobatics Everyday with the Happy Hollows

Following their rad December show (which we previewed with an interview by Chris Ziegler, read that here), Little Joy (pictured) is coming back to Detroit Bar tonight. Only one catch: drummer Fabrizio Moretti, 33% of Little Joy, isn't touring with them this time around, since he's recording an album with his “main” band, the Strokes (you may have heard of them). Taking Fab's place? Jack Dishel from Only Son. But Little Joy regulars Rodrigo Amarante and Binki Shapiro will both be there, playing fun, perfect-for-summer tunes from their self-titled debut like “Brand New Start” and “No One's Better Sake,” which sound like a sunny, vaguely tropical version of…the Strokes. I was at their last show in tune, and it was one of the more memorable gigs of 2008, and not just because I had come directly from seeing the Pussycat Dolls at the Honda Center. $15.

Also tonight: UC Irvine's Acrobatics Everyday, which brings eclectic musicians of a variety of genres to the UCI campus, is having a free show in collaboration with the school's undergrad art department. Lively LA pop trio the Happy Hollows headline, along with Big Whup and our pals the Studiofix. Plus, free food is apparently in the offerings, so, that rules.
