Mozza in Newport Beach Might Lose Liquor License

Just when you thought Mario Batali and Nancy Silverton's new and much-anticipated OC outpost of their blockbuster Pizzeria Mozza was just settling into things at their Newport Beach address and making friends, there's word that they might get their liquor license taken away by the city's Planning Commission.

]
The Daily Pilot
broke the news that a Newport Beach planning commissioner appealed the
decision to grant them the license citing concerns from Mozza's
residential neighbors that the restaurant's bar will result in noisy
customers. Residents of Kings Road, which overlooks Mozza from the
bluffs above the restaurant, have also complained about Mariner's Point, a
commercial development of restaurants also in the works.

Mozza seems to have at least a champion in Councilwoman, Leslie Daigle,
who said, “Here's a business that creates jobs, and we want them to
flourish. We want them to thrive, and not create bureaucratic delays.”
The issue will be discussed in a council meeting this week.
