The CEO of a publicly traded company in Irvine is accused of meeting boys ages 9 and 10 online, convincing them to record sex acts on one another for child porn they sent him and sending them adult porn of himself, according to authorities who fear there may be other victims. Qayed Murtaza Shareef, the 39-year-old chief executive of Adaptive Media Inc., which helps creators of online video syndicate and monetize their work. But the Aliso Viejo's sidework involved connecting with the boys with the online mobile messaging application Tango and under the fake name of Jeremy Stevens, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office. According to the OCDA, Shareef between Dec. 25-29, 2013: had multiple sexually explicit conversations with the boys, who reside in Virginia, about committing sex acts with each other, recording photos and videos of the trysts on their tablet device and sending the child porn to his Tango account; and recording sex acts performed on himself and sending it to the children along with adult pornography. One boy's mother found a video on Dec. 30, 2013, and contacted Virginia law enforcement, the impetus for a long interstate investigation. Members of the Orange County Child Exploitation Task Force–which includes the FBI, local police agencies, the U.S. Postal Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations–arrested Shareef on Wednesday at his home. The OCDA later charged him with 30 felony counts of lewd acts with a child under 14, one felony count of using a minor for sex acts, one felony count of distributing pornography to a minor, one felony count of possession or control of child pornography, with a sentencing enhancement for substantial sexual conduct with a child under 14 years old and committing lewd acts upon multiple victims. Prosecutors also explained in a release that though it is not alleged Shareef had physical contact with the boys, he can be charged with lewd and lascivious acts under state law for causing a child to touch his or her own body or the body of another “with the intent of arousing, appealing to, or gratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires of the defendant or the child.” The maximum sentence Shareef faces is 752 years to life in state prison. He was being held on $2 million bail and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday. But the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is asked to contact Orange County sheriff's Sgt. Wade Walsviek at 714.647.7418 or Supervising District Attorney Investigator Kelly Core at 714.347.8794.

A 20-year-old Westminster man pleaded guilty last week to groping four women in public and was immediately sentenced to three years in prison. Matthew Andrew Linville cut a plea deal that had him admitting to felony false imprisonment by violence and four misdemeanor counts of sexual battery. He's been in custody since his arrest in September 2013, and with credit for jail time served he will likely spend only another 50 days in prison, Senior Deputy District Attorney Paul Chrisopoulos told City News Service. But Orange County Superior Court Judge Richard King also ordered Linville to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Perhaps you remember this case: starting in early September, police in Huntington Beach and later Westminster were searching for a man who came up behind lady joggers or walkers, grabbed their butts and then darted off. In one case, he pulled up the shirt of a woman shopping at the Bella Terra mall, causing her to stumble and fall down. Investigators initially relied on an artist's sketch, but earlier the day of the mall attack a woman was also groped at Burlington Coat Factory, whose surveillance video exposed the suspect. Linville, who was married and had no criminal record, was arrested shortly after that. Previous coverage: Matthew Andrew Linville Could Get 3 Years and Sex Offender Tag for Grabbing Women's Butts

On Jan. 16, the Huntington Beach Police Department posted on its Facebook page that an arrest warrant had been issued for Robert E. Franks, who allegedly exposed himself to an employee at a Newport Beach coffee shop in early December. “Franks is known to frequent beach communities to include the downtown and pier area of Huntington Beach, Ca.,” read the post, which was accompanied by the suspect's seven-year-old DMV mugshot and red 1965 Volkswagen Beetle with a California license plate, 5DFK991–“the actual suspect vehicle.” Anyone who might know Franks' whereabouts was asked to call the police department, Orange County Crime Stoppers or to click the “Submit a Crime Tip” link on the PD's Facebook page. The next day, on Jan. 17, someone who saw the Facebook post called police to say Franks had been seen driving his Bug in downtown Huntington Beach. He was quickly contacted, arrested and issued a citation for a looming court date, inform police, who note Franks and his VW will likely be seen in the downtown area again, “but at this time, he is no longer wanted.”
