Possible 2016 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will be at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum Saturday morning to talk about and sign his New York Times bestseller God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy. It'd be a good idea to purchase a copy from the museum bookstore rather than picking one up on a remainder table on the way to Yorba Linda (manners, folks). But you might also want to bring along a copy of the Huckster's 2005 work of fiction, Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork.
No, it was not intended to be a work of fiction but "a health and exercise inspirational guide" based on Huckabee's amazing weight loss in the mid-2000s, which The New York Times found so rapid that "it was as if he simply unzipped a fat suit and stepped out."
Huckabee writes it was a mix of prayer, exercise and eating right that caused him to lose 110 pounds–from 290 to 180 pounds–after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Others allege it was not diet and exercise but gastric bypass (bariatric) surgery, including this site.
I think we can all agree, however he did it, it's a good thing he lost the weight–and a bit troubling that it's been creeping back onto his carcass. Huckabee has said he gained back a quarter of what he lost due to a foot injury preventing him from running–although not from running for president, obviously.
