Michael Paul Stanton I.D.'d as Man Shot Dead in Santa Ana: Update

ORIGINAL POST, FEB. 19, 9:17 A.M.: An unidentified man who may have been on a bicycle was shot and killed in a residential driveway in Santa Ana Tuesday night.

Police believe the man found in the 600 block of Rosita Street may have been the victim of a gang-related shooting.

Officers went to the neighborhood after receiving at least two calls of shots fired around 8 p.m., according to Santa Ana Police Commander Enrique Esparza.

A videographer at the scene told City News Service police informed him someone got out of a vehicle and shot the man as he was riding a bicycle and that the rider then collapsed in the driveway. A bicycle could be seen on the sidewalk in front of the residence.

Investigators are trying to determine if the victim belonged to a specific gang, according to Esparza.

UPDATE, FEB. 19, 1:14 P.M.: The man who was fatally shot in the upper body has been identified as Michael Paul Stanton, 31, of Santa Ana, according to police.

A dark colored sedan was seen leaving the area after the shooting at 621 N. Rosita St., police add. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at 714.245.8390 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1.855.TIP.OCCS, where tips can be left anonymously.
