A Maui Police Department officer who was on unpaid administrative leave for allegedly driving under the influence on June 11 was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public Saturday afternoon in Newport Beach.
John Salomon, 39, of Pukalani, had his mainland bail set at $500 after his arrest just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The three-year veteran of the Maui Police Department was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and refusing to submit to a breath, blood or urine test after his previous arrest at 1:53 p.m. on June 11, police there say.
His credentials and firearms were surrendered and, after posting $1,350 bail, he was placed on leave, police reports indicate.
On an item about Salomon's latest arrest on MauiNow.com, a “Maui Mike” leaves a comment suggesting the cop was in California “for rehab and had a human failure,” and that his family disclosed he has suffered from PTSD since being the first person at the scene of a plane crash on Lanai a couple years ago.
