Anaheim Police say an officer Tuesday night shot and killed a gunman, whose family reportedly identified him as Martin Angel Hernandez, a 21-year-old father who was said to be trying to turn his life around since being released from jail in December. An unfired shotgun was found next to Hernandez's body, according to cops.

Other than saying officers were responding to a call around 9:45 p.m. of five or six men in an alley in the 100 block of East Wakefield Avenue near Haster Street, and that at least one man was said to be holding a firearm, Anaheim Police released few other details about the incident.
As is routine in officer-involved shootings, the Orange County District Attorney is investigating.
Meanwhile, the Orange County Register reports family members, who rushed to the scene and were interviewed by detectives about Hernandez and his lifestyle, said the dead man was trying to better himself and become more a part of his 3-year-old son Zahid's life.
“He didn't deserve this,” Isaias Rincon, Hernandez's stepfather, reportedly said.
The paper also cites run-ins with the law Hernandez had dating back to 2008.
