Mark Lijek, Real-Life Embassy Worker Depicted in Argo, Held Hostage by Rick Reiff Tonight

Argo won the Oscar, Sir Ben is back on top and all is right with the world, at least through the Hollywood lens.

Or is it?

That's what Rick Reiff aims to find out tonight, when the veteran Orange County journo has on his teevee show one of the American embassy workers portrayed in the potboiler.

Mark Lijek, author of the new book The Houseguests: A Memoir of Canadian Courage and CIA Sorcery, appears on PBS SoCal's SoCal Insider with Rick Reiff at 7 this evening, when the guest will be asked what really went down in 1979 when militants held 52 Americans hostage inside the U.S. embassy in Iran.

Lijek was one of six rescued by CIA specialist Tony Mendez in 1980 at the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran. I'd already read elsewhere that the movie laid it on thick about the jetliner exit.

Besides Lijek, Reiff will mix it up with comedian and Chelsea Handler punching bag Ben Gleib, who, according to PBS SoCal, “puts his irreverent spin on local and national issues.”
