Mark Alan Jarosik, who was awaiting a court hearing for attacking his ex-girlfriend in 2009 when he tried to break into her Ladera Ranch home and then later put her in a Mission Hospital bed with severe head trauma, was sentenced today to 31 years to life in state prison.
A jury in October found the 46-year-old Chicago architect guilty of rape, attempted sodomy, attempted murder and soliciting an Orange County
jail inmate to murder the woman, among other felonies.

Jarosik left his wife, three children and business to start a relationship in Las Vegas with a woman who was also married with children. They split up after four years, but he later followed her to Orange County in hopes of reviving the love affair. [Writer's note: This item originally gave the incorrect identity of

She got a restraining order, but Jarosik raped and attempted to sodomize her anyway. He was on parole for those crimes when he tried to murder her a second time in 2009, banging her head against a curb in her quiet Ladera Ranch neighborhood until residents came out to subdue him.
Jarosik's third murder attempt came from within jail, when he tried to recruit a fellow inmate to do his dirty work.

Judge Francisco Briseño expressed his sympathies for what the victim went through while sentencing Jarosik today.
