Mariachi group Las Colibri are an anomaly in the mariachi music world, for not only are they an all-female mariachi group, but they're also an all-female run mariachi group, and their decorative looks and on-stage outfits are in part an homage to the iconic Mexican actresses of the '40s and '50s. But beautiful as they are, don't judge them as eye-candy alone; each individual member is talented and vibrant on their own and together bring a wonderful contemporary twist on traditional Mexican folk, huapango and ranchera music, with the vocal talents to match. The all-strings Colibri (or “hummingbirds”) are coming down to the New Swan Shakespeare Festival tonight for a rare performance to bring their fun, harmonious show to new fans.
