Marcus Herrera, Santa Ana 23-year-old, Held for Murder by Skateboard in Golden Gate Park

A Santa Ana 23-year-old has been arrested for the murder of a man who was whacked on the back of his head with a skateboard while he was sitting on a bench in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park last Friday evening.

Marcus Herrera, who is also accused of stealing the wallet of Robert Musial, 55, was arrested while riding a Muni bus Sunday morning.

Witnesses say Musial struggled to breathe and called for help after the attack and robbery, but he was unconscious around 7:30 p.m. Friday when police and paramedics arrived. He later died, and an autopsy concluded blunt-force trauma to the head was the cause.

An investigation around Sharon Art studio, near where Musial died, led to Herrera being considered a suspect. He was booked into the San
Francisco County Jail on suspicion of murder, robbery and assault with a
deadly weapon

Erin Sherbert blogs for SF Weekly that police are seeking witnesses to the violent mugging.
