There will be a DUI checkpoint from 6 tonight to 2 a.m. Saturday within Long Beach's South Patrol Division, which
includes Anaheim Street to the ocean and from Cherry Avenue to the
western edge of the city.
Costa Mesa holds the first of two DUI checkpoints this month from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday at Harbor Boulevard and Victoria Street.
The second is scheduled for 6 to 11 p.m. Dec. 17 at 17th Street and Raymond Avenue–also known as Ye Olde Piece Street Annex Round-up.

The Costa Mesa Police Department Traffic Unit kicked off roving DUI saturation patrols, where officers swarm stretches of road frequented by drunken drivers, on Dec. 4. Additional saturation patrols are set for Dec. 18 and 31, from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Since 2007, Costa Mesa cops have made 3,796 DUI arrests and cleaned up after 224 injury crashes linked to alcohol. Seven died in those tragedies.
The Costa Mesa and Long Beach operations are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic
Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
