Back in 1987, Alan Moore was famously pitching a never-made comic series called Twilight of the Superheroes—but in 2015, a twilight for superheroes seems farther away than ever. (In fact, is this a good time to ask when we’ll get a New Gods movie series?) This is the era of the nerd triumphant, and Long Beach Comic Expo is here again to help celebrate, this time with guests of honor Chris Claremont, shaper of the X-Men mythos, and artist Ethan Van Sciver, who illustrated Hal Jordan’s trip to hell and back in Green Lantern: Rebirth. This year also features the inaugural Dwayne McDuffie award for Diversity, which will be selected from five finalists (including Ms. Marvel) at 2 pm Saturday. Plus of course cosplay contests, special screenings … you know the drill, so suit up!
Sat., Feb. 28, 10 a.m.; Sun., March 1, 10 a.m., 2015
