Folk music—it's so much more than autoharp-playing hipster dudes at open mic night. Written and directed by the Rubicon Theatre's James O'Neil, Lonesome Traveler takes us on the hard-knock journey of American roots music from the roaring '20s to folk's crescendo in the '60s—from the Appalachian wilderness to the bright lights of New York nightlife. Watch as actors portray an array of musicians from John Lomax to Bob Dylan to Joan Baez, switching between instruments and vocals to serenade us with classics like “Goodnight Irene” and “Blowin' in the Wind.” Oh, and “Puff the Magic Dragon.” Which we still think is about smoking weed.
