LA Register Reporter Jumps to Rival Paper Before Reg Even Debuts

Updated, with a response by England-Nelson (note the regal hyphen!) at the bottom…

ORIGINAL POST, 7:33 A.M. The Orange County Register's daily newspaper for Los Angeles is scheduled to debut April 16, and already its reporters are trying to jump ship, already souring on owner Aaron Kushner's ambitious plans. Want proof? One of the Los Angeles Register's prized youngsters is jumping ship to the rival Los Angeles Newspaper Group's (LANG) Torrance Daily Breeze.

Whoopsie-doodle!

]

Sources tell the Weekly that reporter Jordan England Nelson–who, despite his grandiose name, made legitimate waves in his short time on Grand Street–is leaving the Reg for the Daily Breeze, but will cover a specific beat for all LANG groups. England was reportedly unhappy with the development of the LA Register, a sentiment shared by some of the other young staffers now trying to cover Los Angeles–but that's another story for another time.

We reached out to Nelson via Twitter but have yet to hear back. But we congratulate him on a smart move, and await word on who's jumping Kushner's ship next…

UPDATE, 10:34 P.M.: Nelson-England (notice the regal hyphen) has responded, and here is his email in whole:

Gustavo,

I appreciate the well-wishes in your blog post this morning, but… to clarify:

I am NOT “unhappy with the development of the LA Register”, as you report.

I took the position covering technology and aerospace for LANG because I am passionate about those industries and because the position will allow me to continue to grow as a reporter.

I left the Register on very good terms and wish the talented reporters and editors at the LA Register all the best. I sincerely hope their project will succeed.

As for style, my grandiose name includes a hyphen. Both my maternal and paternal last names (not one and then the other) should be used on second reference.

Please update your (quite flattering, I must say) post immediately.

¡Gracias, güey!

You're welcome, cabrón!
