Supporting the May release of his self-titled second album (but the first under label Sub Pop), King Tuff hurricanes into Alex's Bar this week. And that's where we're gonna be. Feral and mesmerizing, King Tuff (goes by Kyle Thomas in the real world) transcended from last decade's freak-folk scene and, like BFF Hunx, became a sort of underground scuzz rock nobility. His follow up album showcases a wider range of musical styles than the steady rock assemblage that was 2008's Was Dead, but there's as much wild animal charisma as ever. Fans of The 13th Floor Elevators or even excellent weirdo Nobunny should give this a listen—and also check out raucous local band openers Audacity.
