Kent Wycliffe Easter Case Ends in Mistrial After Jury Can't Break 11-1 Deadlock to Convict

Jurors in Santa Ana last November deadlocked 11-1 in favor of convicting Kent Wycliffe Easter on a felony count of false imprisonment by fraud or deceit. The retrial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The Newport Beach attorney allegedly tried to frame a PTA mom at his son's Irvine elementary school by planting drugs in her car and then calling police on her. He testified during his first trial that his wife believed the school volunteer didn't properly supervise their son and became obsessed with getting the rival mom fired as a volunteer.

Easter's defense essentially boiled down to this: He was a dick-less pawn in the crime masterminded by his adulterous wife, former attorney and crime novelist Jillianne Bjorkholm Easter, who pleaded guilty to false imprisonment last year. She was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and 120 days in jail, a term she completed in February.

The maximum penalty hanging over Kent Easter is three years in prison–if he's convicted without a guilty plea or some sort of deal with the court.

UPDATE, JUNE 3, 12:02 P.M.: The retrial of Kent Easter was this morning rescheduled to June 15.
