The 25-year-old cop was spotted on surveillance video placing the iPad in her
carry-on bag after taking it from a bin adjacent to a metal detector,
according to Miami-Dade police, who add the $800 device was later plainly visible in Mejia's purse.

Meijia, who is said to have told Miami cops she found the iPad, has already pleaded not guilty to
third-degree grand theft and is due back in court Aug. 29.

Fullerton Police Sergeant Andrew Goodrich reportedly told the Reg that Mejia
was placed on administrative leave as soon as her superiors found out about the arrest. Her future with the department depends on the outcome of her court case, the spokesman added.

Ponsi ends his post like a Weekling, noting that Mejia was among 22 Fullerton police officers who were honored by
Mothers Against Drunk Driving for making a significant number of DUI
arrests in 2008.
