Just When You Thought the Streets Were Free of DUI Checkpoints …

In case you saw our warning about all the DUI checkpoints and “saturation” patrols that smothered Orange County over the Fourth of July weekend and thought to yourself, “I'll just wait a weekend to get my drink on and drive,” think again, Tipsy.

The Fullerton and Garden Grove police departments are among those hosting sobriety and drivers license checks tonight.

Fullerton gets the beach ball rolling first with its checkpoint from 8 tonight to 2 a.m. Saturday.

Police there aren't saying where that checkpoint will be, only that it will be on a
major thoroughfare and they'll be checking for drunks and the unlicensed. Officers will also pass out literature from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and the state Office of
Traffic Safety.

Garden Grove's checkpoint begins an hour later and continues through 3 a.m. Saturday at 12301 Magnolia Ave. All vehicles that pass by will be checked “traffic and weather permitting,” the department announced.

They add that you don't have to rely on a checkpoint if you see a drunken driver on the road, just call 9-1-1. Just make sure you're stopped and pulled over so you don't get a ticket for using your mobile phone while mobile.

As usual, these operations are funded by grants from the California Office
of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration.
