A federal judge has blocked the part of Arizona's controversial SB 1070 law that allows police to ask people if they are in the country legally.
The tough new immigration law that has sparked national debate is scheduled to take effect Thursday.
However, the ask/you'd-better-tell policy will now be postponed as the lawsuit brought by the federal government winds through the courts.

Federal District Court Judge Susan Bolton, who hopefully has a security escort out of the courthouse in Phoenix, sided with the U.S. Justice
Department's argument that the federal government enforces immigration
law.
“The judge also put on hold a part of the law that
required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it
illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places,” reports the Washington Post.
