Joseph Angel Olvera, Ex-Youth Shelter Pastor, Gets Jail, Sex Offender Tag for Sexual Batteries

The former pastor of a Fullerton church was sentenced today to four months in jail, three years probation and a lifetime of sex offender registration for the sexual battery of an 18-year-old female follower.

A jury a year ago Tuesday found Joseph Angel Olvera, the 55-year-old former pastor at Lifetime Ministries, guilty of two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.

Did Pastor Joseph Angel Olvera Touch You With More Than His Sermon?

Olvera, who had run a shelter for at-risk youth at his facility, went to the bed of the then-18-year-old woman and woke her so she could get ready for work around 9 a.m. on Aug. 22, 2012. He then touched her hand and arm, began to rub her back and neck and put his hand down her shirt and touched her breast underneath her bra.

Three days later, Olvera walked toward the same young woman as she was waiting in the hallway of the church for a friend and slapped her buttocks while wishing her a good day at work.

The female reported the assaults to the Fullerton Police Department. She had been a member of the church for four or five years when she sought shelter due to a “family conflict,” Deputy District Attorney Ed Grubaugh told City News Service.

Among those who testified against Olvera was a woman in her early 20s who attended and volunteered at the church where, she claimed, Olvera also molested her in the mid-2000s. No charges were filed against the ex-pastor based on those allegations, according to Grubaugh.
