Jesus Manuel Nevarez Jr. and 2 Juvies Held in Edgar Antonio Ojeda’s Murder

An 18-year-old Santa Ana man and two male juveniles are being held in the presumed gang-related murder of a 24-year-old man in September 2014.

Though he would have been a juvenile himself at the time of the fatal shooting, Jesus Manuel Nevarez Jr. is the only person whose identity is being released because he is an adult now and the other suspects are still minors.

Just after 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2014, dispatchers received a call about shots fired in the area of Center and Edinger streets in Santa Ana, and responding officers found Edgar Antonio Ojeda lying on a sidewalk in the 1400 block of South Center Street, a residential neighborhood, according to police.

The 24-year-old Santa Ana resident, who had been shot multiple times, was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Homicide detectives learned early in the investigation that the shooting was likely gang-related and that the killers possibly left the area on foot, police say.

There had been no word about the case from the Santa Ana Police Department until the announcement that Nevarez and the two juvies had been arrested on Feb. 25 for suspected murder with gang enhancements.
