For some reason, a gag from the 1980 movie Airplane! comes to mind when visualizing Monday night's bust in Lake Forest of a 22-year-old parolee for alleged heroin possession.
The scene in question introduced the Dr. Alan Rumack character and the previously undiscovered comedic chops of the late, great actor Leslie Nielsen. See Dr. Rumack getting to the bottom of the food poisoning overtaking passengers and crew after the jump . . .
Jeremy Matthew Schmidt was pulled over by sheriff's deputies just after 8:30 p.m. Monday at Ridge Route Drive and Overlake Drive. The plumber, who is on probation, was
told to get out of his car and sit in the curb.
A deputy claims he saw Schmidt spit something out as he sat on the curb. Upon further examination, it turned out to be a balloon filled with heroin, according to the sheriff's department.
But the suspect was not done–he allegedly went on to spit out 10 more heroin-filled balloons. Talk about a parlor trick!
Schmidt supposedly led deputies to believe he once had a dozen balloons in his mouth, claiming to have swallowed one while sitting there on the curb. He was rushed to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Mission Viejo, but doctors there reported the man had not downed any horse.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of
an uncontrolled substance and taken to Orange County Jail, where Schmidt was held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
And don't call him Shirley.
