Is Barbara Coe Secretly a Zapatista?

California Coalition for Immigration Reform head Barbara Coe is understandably angry this week, given that the Obama administration announced that it's not interested in deporting hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants because it's basically immoral to do so.

“This is his 'first major step' to abolishing U.S. sovereignty and establishing the tyrannical New World Order and the literal enslavement of law-abiding Americans of EVERY race and ethnicity,” Coe wrote to her minions yesterday (as always, CAPS and underlined words in the original–and I'm not even going to bother to bold everything, as Coe usually does). “[George] Soros & CFR are dedicated to the destruction of America. Commie Muslim Imposter OBAMA is their 'puppet.'”

And she went on like this for a couple of more sentences–until she started sounding like a Chicano yaktivist quoting their favorite, non-Che mustachioed revolutionary: Emiliano Zapata.

Her email urged followers to send email, faxes (people still use them?), letters (really?) and phone calls to politicians “ADVISING them that True AMERICANS 'will die on our feet before we bend on our knees to tyrants'! [Let them figure that out]”

It's sentiment-for-sentiment the exact quote long attributed to Zapata*, which reads, “It's better to die on one's feet than to live on one's knees.” Even if he didn't say it, Chicanos love to repeat that quote ad naseum, so much so that, like Southern California, the quote is now Mexican by virtue of conquest.

Is Coe secretly a Zapatista? Is her long-claimed indigenous blood actually Zapotec instead of Sioux? Does she call herself Citlali? Inquiring minds want to know!

*And, conversely, George Washington. A Mexican and a Founding Father, uttering the same liberty-loving words? Let Coe figure that one out…
