Irvine Lake is First Orange County Pond to Host Drag Boat Racing in 20 Years, Claim Promoters

For the first time in 20 years, Orange County is hosting a professional drag boat racing event–at Irvine Lake starting today and through the weekend, proving yet again that the only thing better than dragging Irvine Lake for bodies is a drag boat race on it.

When the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series, “well-known for professional level, high-tech drag racing on the water,” made the boast about the first such race in 20 years, I immediately thought of the events that were held in the drainage channel near the Honda Center in Anaheim. But come to think of it, I believe those boats were racing in circles.

The Lucas Oil series hosts the 2013 Irvine Lake California Classic at the Silverado attraction through Sunday. Featured are nitro-burning Top Fuel Hydros, Top Alcohol Flatbottoms, Pro Mods and numerous other classes of drag boats.

Special pricing, RV spot rentals and 10 x 10 EZ Up sites along the shoreline are available “for the ultimate in spectator viewing,” say promoters.

This is one in 10 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series events that have more than 900 of the top teams in the country competing for one national championship.
